There are few of these Pioneer thru-hiker journals on the web today. Fortunately Earl Shaffer's journals are accessible and are here to represent the first known and accepted thru-hike of the Appalachian Trail in either a Northbound or Southbound hike. A two volume book published in 1972 contained a large number of early journals and if you are lucky, you may find this set in an old book store or at your local library. If you have access to any that are not contained in this two volume set, please contact us. Submit your Journal by contacting the museum: email@example.com
